4 of the Dirtiest Players in Premier League History

Often football succeeds in living up to its nickname of being the ‘beautiful game’ but as all fans know, sometimes the game can exhibit a darker side. That less attractive side to the game can rear its head at any level, and the following four players are some of the dirtiest to have stepped onto the field in the Premier League.

4. Duncan Ferguson (Everton and Newcastle United)
Duncan Ferguson‘Big Dunc’ was born in Stirling in 1971 and came to the Premier League via spells at Dundee United and Rangers. He went on to become one of the best target men in the league, a top goalscorer and an Everton legend but was also undoubtedly one of the spikiest and most aggressive players in Premier League history.

The Scottish international picked up a record equalling eight red cards in his Premier League career, at an astonishing rate of one red card for every 2283.5 minutes spent on the field. The red card which took him to eight in the 2005/06 season was typical of many of his dismissals, seeing the striker get involved in a brawl with Paul Scharner and Pascal Chimbonda of Wigan Athletic.
