Formula One is not easy to break into. Drivers generally have to work their way up from humble beginnings in karting and then put in the hours behind the wheel of cars in all manner of lower formulas before they get their break at the top level.

It is uncommon then, for a driver to suddenly burst onto the scene but it is certainly not unheard of even if it is a notable and unlikely occurrence. The following nine drivers for instance all made their F1 bow before their 20th birthday, making them the youngest ever racers to start a Formula One race.
